Some of us tend to wake up with a sense of dread or foreboding, fearful of what the day has in store for us. Then, there are others who wake up anxious, fearful that they may not be able to perform according to what is expected of them, by others as well as by themselves. There are also those of us who wake up in a sort of ‘limbo’ space, not really aware or concerned about anything in particular, stumbling, as it were, into the day not particularly prepared for it nor noticeably wary of it. My question to you today is: How would you like to wake up and enter your day? Having experienced all of the above ways of rising and starting my day (and a few others as well ;-)), I would have to say that the way I do it these days is definitely my preferred way. And what is that?
Well, generally, when I awake, I allow myself to have a sense of gratitude for the good night’s sleep that I’ve had, for the bed that I’ve been able to sleep on, for the good health I enjoy, for my body, becoming aware of different parts of it each day, for the friends and family I have around me (including my animal friends), for my ability to hear all the different sounds around me… I can tell you that once I start, I find it hard to stop…there is almost nothing that I cannot be grateful for. Soon, however, I allow my mind to look into the day ahead of me. Here is when I start Imagining, Intending and Allowing. I imagine how I would like to feel about different things, people and situations that I expect to be involved with. I also imagine how I would like to feel generally through the day. Mostly, I want to feel peaceful, joyful, enthusiastic and a great sense of fun and playfulness. Then I simply intend all of this: May I feel peaceful throughout my day. May I feel joyful throughout my day etc. Finally, I allow myself to feel all of these: I allow myself to remain peaceful today. I allow myself to feel joyful today etc.
Now, I do go through each feeling separately so that I am not just thinking them but actually imagining and almost invariably, as a result of thinking and imagining, feeling them. All this can take five minutes or it can take five hours, depending on how long you wish to enjoy every thought and feeling!
You can imagine that by this time, I am in a pretty good space, almost blissful if you like! And boy, am I ready to continue my day!!!
